World Cities Report 2015 – nearing completion
New York, 3 July 2015 – Thirty-two researchers have gathered at the United Nations Headquarters in New York to discuss initial findings for UN-Habitat’s upcoming flagship publication, the World Cities Report 2015. This report is a major contribution to the upcoming Habitat III Conference in 2016.
UN-Habitat lends support to Kenyan urban planning schools
Nairobi, 3 July 2015 -- UN-Habitat is exploring ways to improve the capacity of Kenyan urban planning schools to enable them to offer better quality education. Towards that end, the agency organised last week a consultative meeting for nine planning schools drawn from the country’s public universities.
Islamic Cities body support City Prosperity Initiative
New York 3 July 2015-- The President of the World Assembly of Islamic Cities (WAIC), Mr. Masoud Nosrati, signed a Letter of Intent with UN-Habitat to co-organize a Mayoral Conference on the City Prosperity Initiative (CPI). This conference will be held on July 28th and 29th 2015 at the United Nations Office in Vienna.
UN-Habitat spearheads initiative to improve Nairobi’s transport systems
Stockholm 2 July 2015—UN-Habitat is spearheading an ambitious initiative that is expected to drastically improve Nairobi’s transportation systems and position the Kenyan capital as the regional travel hub. Towards this end, last month the Governor of Nairobi Dr. Evans Kidero, Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) chairman General (Rtd) Jeremiah Kianga, KRC Chairman and Mr. Atanas Kariuki Maina, the KRC Managing Director led a UN-Habitat organized study mission to the city of Stockholm.
Post Haiyan shelter projects wraps with 660 families getting resilient houses and households strengthened against disaster
Barangay Pawa, Philippines 2 July 2015--- Rising from the wreckage of Super Typhoon Haiyan, 660 families finally completed the building of their houses and 54 community infrastructure projects in 28 communities in Capiz and Iloilo as the Post-Yolanda Support for Safer Homes and Settlements project implemented by UN-Habitat came to a close last month.
Maseru workshop discusses Lesotho urban and national urban profiles
Maseru 1 July 2015 - A workshop was recently held in Maseru to gather inputs on the city and national urban profiles in Lesotho, advance a collective analysis of the information contained in the profiles and validate the Urban Profiles as operational tools for urban policy debate and slum upgrading action planning.
Public Space Urban Thinkers Campus in Stockholm kicks off
Stockholm 30 June 2015—Some 400 participants gathered in Stockholm from Monday for the third Future of Places Conference – the Public Space Urban Thinkers Campus. Representing more than 300 organizations from 76 countries – along with nearly 10.000 followers on Twitter – the attendees will participate in the Campus dubbed “Public Space in the New Urban Agenda” organized by the Future of Places and set to run from 29 June – 1 July 2015.
