Voting opens for the 2015-2017 UN-Habitat Youth Advisory Board

Nairobi, 31 July 2015-- UN-Habitat is now inviting young people between the ages of 16 to 32 from around the world to vote for their representatives for the 2015-2017 UN-Habitat Youth Advisory Board.

The Youth Advisory Board is a youth consultative body that advises UN-Habitat on strategies to engage young people in sustainable urban development.

Mayors launch urban climate change alliance at Vatican symposium

Vatican, 24 July 2015 – Mayors from cities around the world have signed a declaration at a symposium on sustainable cities which includes a commitment of mayors and other partners to contribute to implementation of the urban Sustainable Development Goal.

The meeting, co-led by the Pontificial Academy of Sciences and Jeffrey Sachs' UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, resulted in a declaration on An Alliance for Sustainable Cities, and an agreement to a further meeting on the eve of the post-2015 summit to be held in September this year.

Kenyan University launches application calls for pioneer urban development Masters Course

Nairobi, 23 July 2015--- The Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) has launched calls for application for its pioneer Master of Sustainable Urban Development course which kicks off in September.

The two year course course will be offered under the Centre for Urban Studies, established in 2013 by the School of Architecture and Building Sciences in partnership with UN-Habitat, to guide in research, training and development of innovative ideas that will help tackle the inherent complex and diverse issues in urban settings.

New dawn for pupils of two Kenyan schools as WASH project is completed

Kakamega, Kenya, 20 July 2015—It was dawn of a new era for pupils of Matete Primary School in Western Kenya after UN-Habitat in partnership with the Royal Kingdom of Thailand together with the County Government of Kakamega handed over the just completed Water, Sanitation and Hygiene “WASH” facilities to the institution last week.

The “WASH” project is benefiting over 1,000 pupils in both in Matete Primary and Renja Primary schools. The project was established to accomplish the following objectives:
