Barangay Pawa, Philippines 2 July 2015--- Rising from the wreckage of Super Typhoon Haiyan, 660 families finally completed the building of their houses and 54 community infrastructure projects in 28 communities in Capiz and Iloilo as the Post-Yolanda Support for Safer Homes and Settlements project implemented by UN-Habitat came to a close last month.

Guiuan, a second-class municipality at the southern tip of Eastern Samar, facing the Pacific Ocean, was the location of Super Typhoon Haiyan’s first landfall.

Panay, Philippines, 15 December 2014 - They all slept well. That was the first thing heard from many in the community when the UN-Habitat Roxas field team visited their project sites one day after Typhoon Hagupit (known locally as Ruby) passed north of the island of Panay on Sunday, 7 December, barely over a year since Typhoon Haiyan, also known as Yolanda, devastated the region.
Tacloban City, Philippines 31 October 2014-- In the afternoon of October 23, 2014, droves of teens and young adults headed to the Balyuan Grounds in Tacloban City despite gray skies, puddled pavements, and light but steady rain for Kabataan: Kasugbong Ha Pag-uswag (Youth: Partners in Development) – a youth jam for safe and resilient cities.
Manila 25 September 2014— As part of capacity building component and campaign for sustainable self-recovery among the populations affected by Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda in the Philippines) which struck last November , UN-Habitat has just conducted a series of trainings on disaster-resilient shelter construction for craftsmen in Roxas City and the municipalities of Panay and Pontevedra in Capiz Province. The scale of the devastation spawned by Typhoon Haiyan left hundreds of thousands ill-equipped to rehabilitate their homes.
Manila 26 August 2014-- Campaigns and activities to celebrate World Humanitarian Day, celebrated on August 19, took place across the Philippines with successful turnouts and wide local media coverage. In Manila, a loop video with inputs from six humanitarian agencies was displayed along with a banner and other information products at the foyer of the RCBC Plaza, where several UN agencies hold office. Two LED advertisements on the day were shown on buildings along the Ayala Avenue, a main road cutting across the city’s main business district.
This Country Programme Document presents an analysis of the Human Settlements and Urbanization realities in the Philippines. The development goals set forth in the end was therefore based on the analysis and the Medium Term Strategic and Institutional Plan 2008-2013.
It further outlined the strategies critical to assist the government and Habitat Agenda partners towards achieving sustainable urbanization and meeting the targets of the Millennium Development Goals.
