Health at the heart of urban development strategies

This timely report comes at a decisive moment in history where we can reshape urban environments and health systems for the majority of the world’s population that live in cities. Enabling this transformation are the SDGs, which have reconfigured how governments and the international community need to plan and implement actions to eradicate poverty and inequality, create inclusive economic growth, preserve the planet and improve population health.

Ending the AIDS epidemic in cities will have profound, long-lasting benefits for countless urban communities across the globe. But the AIDS response can also play another transformative role, as a pathfinder for broader health and development gains in urban areas.

This HCPD is based on the Human Settlement areas of the country’s UNDAF, and on the Action Plan 2007-2011 led by the DRC Ministry of Urban Planning and Housing.
