UN-Habitat launches Spatial Development Strategic Frameworks for Bethlehem, Qalqiliya, and Tubas Governorates
Ramallah 19 May 2016 – UN-Habitat along with the Ministry of Local Government (MoLG) and other partners has launched the Spatial Development Strategic Frameworks for Bethlehem, Qalqiliya, and Tubas Governorates with the financial support of the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (UK/DFID).
Community Development Centre and Park inaugurated in Kurani Ainkawa, Erbil
Erbil, 12 May 2016 – To mark the closure of a comprehensive informal settlement upgrading intervention in Erbil, a community development centre and a neighbourhood park were opened this week opened in Kurani Ainkawa. The Improving Housing Delivery System in Erbil - Upgrading of Kurani Ainkawa Informal Settlement project is funded by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), and implemented by UN-Habitat in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). UN-Habitat provides boost to Ecuador’s earthquake recovery
Quito, 5 May 2016 – In response to the earthquake that affected Ecuador earlier in April, UN-Habitat is gearing-up its assistance to the Latin American country. The 7.8 magnitude earthquake led to the loss of close to 700 lives, with 28,000 people injured and severe damage to infrastructure and property, especially in the coastal town of Pedernales.
Belmopan and UN-Habitat to address climate change through planning
Paramaribo 05 May 2016 –During the 6th Caribbean Urban Forum (CUF6) in Paramaribo, Suriname, the capital city of Belize, Belmopan, signed a cooperation agreement with UN-Habitat to tackle the effects of rapid urbanization. The Memorandum of Understanding was the result of a year of deliberations culminating in the first Planning Lab conducted jointly by urban planning and climate change experts from UN-Habitat’s Urban Planning and Design Branch.
