• PSUP (I, II, III)

The Participatory Slum Upgrading Programme Phase III is a partnership between the European Commission, the Secretariat of the Africa, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States and UN-Habitat that builds on previous investments, lessons learnt, achievements and the partnership network of the Participatory Slum Upgrading Programme, Phases I and II since 2008. PSUP lies at the heart of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and directly contributes to the five areas of critical importance for humanity and the planet by 2030: People, Prosperity, Planet, Peace and Partnership. PSUP, as a global programme, acts as a unique vehicle to deliver on the concept of “Leaving no one behind of the 2030 Agenda”.

  • Adaptation Fund – Resilient Honiara

Pacific Small Island Developing States (SIDS), such as Solomon Islands are amongst the most vulnerable countries to climate change. Honiara’s coastline is vulnerable to sea level rise and lacks sufficient natural or artificial defences against the increasing intensity of storm surges and cyclones, resulting in loss of habitats and livelihoods. With a topographically difficult terrain and limited urban infrastructure, the rugged hills and valleys are facing increased occurrences of landslides due to higher frequency and intensity of extreme rainfall. Particularly at risk are the residents of informal communities. The project aims to enhance the resilience of the city and its inhabitants to current and future climate impacts and natural disasters, focusing in four informal settlements: Aekafo, Kukum Fishing Village, Ontong Java, Gilbert Camp, and White River.
