On 28th and 29th September 2020, UN-Habitat and Turkana County Government hosted a two-day virtual workshop to receive feedback and facilitate discussions with County officials on the potential land-use proposals based on existing situational analysis as well as proposals provided by stakeholders from previous multi-sector meetings. This plan would also support the County Government for the conferment process of the proposed Kakuma-Kalobeyei Municipality.

The Financial Sustainability Strategy for Kalobeyei Settlement aims to support the implementation of the “Kalobeyei Settlement Advisory Development Plan” developed by UN-Habitat, which provides a long-term and integrative approach to guide appropriate development for the Kalobeyei Settlement in Turkana, Kenya.

It is estimated that one quarter of the world’s urban population lives in informal settlements and these
exist in nearly all regions and countries, including in highly developed countries.8 However, almost without exception, countries around the world have singularly failed to implement upgrading of informal settlements at scale.

The ROSRA tool helps local governments optimize their Own-Source Revenues (OSR), strengthening Municipal Finance foundations, enhancing creditworthiness and enabling local governments to leverage external resources to fund their development. It quantifies revenue leakages and deconstructs known bottlenecks to identify root causes and entry points for reform.
