UN-Habitat and UNESCAP to strengthen Asian and Pacific partnerships

Bangkok, 4 August 2015-- Fifty multi-sector participants from 14 Asia-Pacific countries and development partners in the region recently converged at the United Nations Conference Center in Bangkok, Thailand for a Partners Workshop on strengthening partnerships for sustainable urban development in Asia and the Pacific region.

Supporting communities in Nepal

Kathmandu, 3 August 2015 – Martha Ramtel, 41, who lost her husband fifteen years ago and also lost her father, who has been assisting her since then, during the devastating earthquake in April this year, comes from a Dalit family in Dumin Danda village, in Sindhupalchowk district, Nepal. Living with her four small children she works as a labourer and also sells buffalo leather as raw material to local entrepreneurs. The food grain she produces is only sufficient for three months in a year.

Voting opens for the 2015-2017 UN-Habitat Youth Advisory Board

Nairobi, 31 July 2015-- UN-Habitat is now inviting young people between the ages of 16 to 32 from around the world to vote for their representatives for the 2015-2017 UN-Habitat Youth Advisory Board.

The Youth Advisory Board is a youth consultative body that advises UN-Habitat on strategies to engage young people in sustainable urban development.

Mayors launch urban climate change alliance at Vatican symposium

Vatican, 24 July 2015 – Mayors from cities around the world have signed a declaration at a symposium on sustainable cities which includes a commitment of mayors and other partners to contribute to implementation of the urban Sustainable Development Goal.

The meeting, co-led by the Pontificial Academy of Sciences and Jeffrey Sachs' UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, resulted in a declaration on An Alliance for Sustainable Cities, and an agreement to a further meeting on the eve of the post-2015 summit to be held in September this year.
