This publication - #Housing2030: Effective policies for affordable housing in the UNECE region – was developed within #Housing2030, a joint international initiative of UNECE, UN-Habitat and Housing Europe. It explores housing affordability challenges and existing policy instruments for improving housing affordability in the UNECE region and facilitates the exchange and dissemination of good practices in improving housing affordability among countries and cities of the region.

The ESSS 3.1 describes UN-Habitat’s commitments, roles, and responsibilities towards environmental and social (E&S) risks and impacts associated with its activities. The ESSS 3.0 ensures that that E&S risks and impacts are managed from the conceptualization to the implementation of projects and programmes, in accordance with local regulations and international standards.

This Regional Representation Strategy for Africa shows a paradigm shift towards sustainable urbanisation as an engine for growth by proactively tackling urban challenges while simultaneously leveraging the opportunities presented by the phenomenon itself.

The framework will guide member States in the region in adapting their plans to the existing context at the subregional, national and subnational levels. It encourages coherence and harmonized implementation of human settlement commitments along the urban-rural continuum, in alignment with African priorities and multiple global commitments.

The Governance Assessment Framework for Metropolitan, Territorial and Regional Management (GAF-MTR) and its two-step assessment tools present an analytical and practical vision of governance. They propose the understanding of governance as a complex process in which institutional solutions, decision-making and collective action must work together.

Based on the global and Arab housing strategies, Egypt is on the lead drawing a road map towards achieving the goals of adequate housing for all. In 2014, Egypt started preparing the Egyptian Housing Profile as a first step to monitor and analyze the sector’s components and challenges in Egypt. This was conducted with the participation of all governmental agencies, academic entities and representatives of relevant local communities.
