Wednesday 20th July, 2016, the Government of Afghanistan launched the ‘Atlas of Afghan City Regions 2016’ which presents a comprehensive and reliable urban dataset on Afghanistan’s five main city regions, Jalalabad, Kabul, Mazar-e-Sharif, Herat and Kandahar regions as well as on 28 Strategic District Municipalities.
UN-Habitat presents global tool to measure sustainable urban development
Surabaya, 25 July 2016 – UN-Habitat has developed a tool that can measure the prosperity of a city through its City Prosperity Initiative.
Eduardo Moreno, Director of the Research and Capacity Development at UN-Habitat presented the new tool and comprehensively explained how it can be applied to policy and action for improvement and development.
The tool has been devised, he said, “To help monitor the New Urban Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.”
Advancing UN-Habitat's collaboration with China: Clos visits Beijing, Shanghai
Shanghai – 23 July 2016. The Executive Director of UN-Habitat, Dr. Joan Clos, wrapped up a 3-day official visit to China, where he met several high-level officials and signed new agreements, further strengthening the collaboration between UN-Habitat and the Chinese government. Dr. Clos was in China upon invitation of Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of China.

UN-Habitat and Talal Abu-Ghazaleh to partner on multi-stakeholder platform for SDG11
Nairobi/Amman 15 July 2016-UN-Habitat, the United Nations organization responsible for human settlements and Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAG-Org), a leading global professional and education services firm, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to carry forward the "Network Eleven Initiative." The Network Eleven Initiative was launched last year under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council to advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11 (SDG 11): to build by 2030 ‘inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable urban settlements and cities’.
