UN-Habitat to announce winner of 'Student Design Competition for Kenya's Towns'

UN-Habitat and Kenya’s Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development are pleased to announce an exhibition of 9 short-listed candidate from 'STUDENT DESIGN COMPETITION FOR KENYA’S TOWNS'. The competition was held by UN-Habitat and the Ministry to seek creative planning and design ideas for sustainable urban development in Kenya. The competition was open to undergraduate and postgraduate students from around the world.

UNESCO and UN-HABITAT hold workshop on seismic hazard and risk analysis

Tehran 2 June 2016-- UNESCO and UN-Habitat this week held a 3-day capacity building workshop, as part of a joint sub-regional project on Seismic Hazard and Risk Analysis, covering Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan and Turkmenistan. The Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) and the International Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology (IIEES) have been major partners of the project from the beginning.

UN-Habitat supporting youth entrepreneurship in Kuwait

Kuwait City, 27 May 2016- Ms Ameera Al- Hassan, UN-Habitat’s assistant head of Kuwait office, presented an empowering presentation on youth entrepreneurship during a Gender Mainstream workshop for women in Kuwaiti society at a ceremony on Sunday at Al Babtain Library in Kuwait city. The Global Women Entrepreneurs Forum 2016 highlighted the potential of promoting the empowerment of women and mainstreaming as a fundamental to every society’s prosperity and development.

Sanandaj Declaration Calling for Action in Informal Settlements in Iran

Sanandaj, Iran, 23 May 2016—Hundreds of delegates gathered for the International Conference on Urban Slums, Towards Upgrading and Sustainable Urban Regeneration, made the ‘Sanandaj Declaration’ which is a rallying call for action on informal settlements in Iran. The conference held early this month had participants from all over Iran and abroad.
