Qazvin, Iran 2016 – The United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has thanked the city of Qazvin for inspiring solidarity and exchange between nations, cities and citizens. The city recently hosted the Silk Mayors Forum at the World Citizens Organization. In his congratulatory address, Mr Ban emphasized that the initiative fosters the United Nations aim of world peace and sets an example for the positive development of humanity.
Greener Cities Partnership to monitor urban environmental SDG indicators in Qazvin, Iran
Nairobi, 1 August 2016 – The City Prosperity Initiative – Metropolitan Cities (CPI-MC) and the Greener Cities Partnership (GCP) recently launched an International Pilot Programme in the City of Qazvin to monitor Sustainable Development Goals with an urban environment connection. The objective is to enable the municipality to create baseline data on the prosperity of the city related to urban SDGs indicators – and with the support of the GCP, monitor specific urban environmental indicators.
UNESCO and UN-HABITAT hold workshop on seismic hazard and risk analysis
Tehran 2 June 2016-- UNESCO and UN-Habitat this week held a 3-day capacity building workshop, as part of a joint sub-regional project on Seismic Hazard and Risk Analysis, covering Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan and Turkmenistan. The Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) and the International Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology (IIEES) have been major partners of the project from the beginning.
Sanandaj Declaration Calling for Action in Informal Settlements in Iran

The conference held early this month had participants from all over Iran and abroad.
Asian Mayors Forum convenes in Iran
Tehran, 31 August 2015 – The Fifth Executive Board meeting of the Asian Mayors Forum has opened in Tehran at the Azadi Hotel. The opening ceremony was attended by mayors of Asian cities, members of the diplomatic community and partners from international organisations. The Forum continues in Tehran and then moves to Qazvin, about 150 kilometres northwest of the capital.
UN-Habitat to collaborate on risk reduction, safety in Iranian schools
Tehran, 16 December 2014 - UN-Habitat and the State Organization of Schools Renovation, Development and Mobilization (SOSDRM) of the Islamic Republic of Iran have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to work together to improve the safety and security facilities in schools in Iran.
Dr. Morteza Raissi Dehkordi, the Deputy Minister of Education and Head of SOSRDM and Mr. Siamak Moghaddam, acting Chief of the UN-Habitat Tehran office, signed the agreement at a ceremony held at the SOSRDM conference hall.
World Cities Day Celebrated in Iran
Tehran, 1st November 2014 - World Cities Day was celebrated in I.R.Iran like many other countries with the theme “Better City, Better life, Leading Urban Transformations”.
The UN-Habitat office in Tehran celebrated this event jointly with the Municipality of Tehran in a half-day ceremony with participation of the Chairman of Tehran City Council, Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development; UN-Habitat and FAO Representatives and senior municipality and government officials and members of the diplomatic core.
