The Sustianable Cities and Communities Consultation (Consulta Cidades Sustantáveis) demonstrates an innovative way to engage citizens, create awareness of sustainable city policies and the Agenda 2030, in addition to facilitating monitoring and gathering of data to support a dialogue with local governments. The report presents the results of the implementation of the consultation in Brazil from 2019 to 2020.
State of Rio de Janeiro and UN-Habitat to join hands on sustainable urban development
Rio de Janeiro 31 August 2015--Representatives of UN-Habitat and the State of Rio de Janeiro have signed an agreement on sustainable urban development.
During the ceremony, the governor of Rio de Janeiro, Luiz Fernando Pezão, and the Director of the regional office of UN-Habitat in Latin America and the Caribbean, Elkin Velasquez, made a commitment to promote actions and projects for the benefit of urban and metropolitan governance.
UN-Habitat signs agreement with City of São Paulo
Rio de Janeiro, 11 December 2014 – UN-Habitat and the City of São Paulo have entered an agreement to promote debate around the challenges to sustainable urban development. The Mayor of São Paulo, Fernando Haddad, and the Director of the UN-Habitat Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, Elkin Velásquez, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to firm up the existing partnership between the two institutions.
Experts debate water and sanitation in Brazil
