The Urban Resilience Action Plan (URAP) of Sahab City, Jordan represents a core contribution to strengthening the city’s ability to respond to climate, urban, and biodiversity challenges. Guided by the findings of the Multilayered Vulnerability Assessment (MVA), utilizing a systems thinking approach, and integrating the priorities of key stakeholders, the plan identifies 51 critical actions across the urban, climate change, and biodiversity dimensions that are essential for enhancing Sahab’s resilience.
Through extensive participatory processes; including multi-stakeholder voting exercises involving local communities, key stakeholders, and experts, as well as a multi-criteria assessment; 10 priority actions were shortlisted based on their potential impact, feasibility, and alignment with the city’s strategic resilience objectives. These actions are designed to address vulnerabilities in key sectors and include : promoting the greening of open spaces, encouraging urban agriculture activities, including climate resilient varieties and community gardening, strengthening institutional capacity for GIS-based data collection, analysis, and indicator reporting , assessing and implementing targeted measures in the stone-cutting area to improve air quality and reduce dust accumulation on urban surfaces; and implementing green infrastructure and nature-based solutions.
Ultimately, the URAP serves as a vital strategic foundation for building systemic resilience in Sahab. It aims to mobilize resources, inform sound policies, and guide coordinated local action to support sustainable development, climate adaptation, and urban transformation; ensuring a resilient, healthy, and inclusive future for Sahab City and positioning it as a model for resilience in Jordan.
