Wau, South Sudan 16 April 2018-- The ambassador of Japan, Seiji Okada, recently led delegates from embassy of Japan, UN-Habitat, and UNICEF, to Wau to inspect Japanese funded projects in the area.
Mr. Okada paid a courtesy call on the governor of Wau Mr. Angelo Taban. The ambassador informed the governor about the projects that were funded by the Government of Japan in Wau State. He talked about the construction of houses for veterans in Alel Chok implemented by UN-Habitat, the urban water supply project under UNICEF and the new allocation of funding for 2018 where UN-Habitat will scale-up One Stop Youth Center in Wau. The ambassador assured the governor of Wau State that Japan is willing to support development projects in the state as long as there is peace.
the governor informed the ambassador that Wau State is secure and peaceful. He said the only insecurity in the state was related to robbery. He called upon the ambassador of Japan to support the State especially in rehabilitation of infrastructure, supporting to provide access to urban basic services roads, water, and electricity, strengthen the capacity of the state government officials and institutions for example city council to promote sustainable peace and development.
The two later inspected the urban water plant as well as the generator.
The ambassador visited one of the distribution points in Suk Abdullatifa, within Wau Municipality. Before proceeding to the protection of civilian site (POC) in UNMISS. At the POC, the ambassador visited a Child Friendly Space.
Mr Okada later visited Alel Chok where hw was he veterans, and the community of Alel Chok.
The ambassador then inspected the houses in the presence of the Deputy Governor, Minister of Local government, and Minister of Physical Infrastructure.
The ambassador informed the audience about the importance of peace for the development of South Sudan. A good house and livelihood is important to bring sustainable peace in the society.
The ambassador then handed over house keys to the representative of the veterans in the presence of the Deputy Governor, Wau State.
