Quito, 5 May 2016 – In response to the earthquake that affected Ecuador earlier in April, UN-Habitat is gearing-up its assistance to the Latin American country. The 7.8 magnitude earthquake led to the loss of close to 700 lives, with 28,000 people injured and severe damage to infrastructure and property, especially in the coastal town of Pedernales.
Belmopan and UN-Habitat to address climate change through planning
Paramaribo 05 May 2016 –During the 6th Caribbean Urban Forum (CUF6) in Paramaribo, Suriname, the capital city of Belize, Belmopan, signed a cooperation agreement with UN-Habitat to tackle the effects of rapid urbanization. The Memorandum of Understanding was the result of a year of deliberations culminating in the first Planning Lab conducted jointly by urban planning and climate change experts from UN-Habitat’s Urban Planning and Design Branch.

Nairobi 13 April 2016--The English version of the International Guidelines on Urban Territorial Planning (IG-UTP) has been downloaded over 100,000 times from the UN-Habitat website, making these Guidelines the most popular publications ever in less than a year of the date of publication.

Students explore solutions for Vietnam’s Da Nang Riverfront
Da Nang, Vietnam 24 March 2016-- 46 students from three continents recently attended the 10-day Da Nang Summer School in the Central Vietnamese city. Academicians and chairs of East African professional bodies discuss architecture and urban planning
Machakos, 11 February 2016 - Deans, senior lecturers of architecture schools and chairs of professional bodies of East Africa last week congregated in the Kenyan town of Machakos to discuss education for sustainability in architecture and urban planning. The meeting saw teaching staff of the different schools of architecture and built environment meet to deliberate on the topic “integration of sustainable building design into curriculum for higher learning in East Africa.” The workshop brought together so
