UN-Habitat champions children and youth participation in New Urban Agenda

New York 15 October 2015—A side event by UN-Habitat at the United Nations General Assembly highlighted the key role of young people in sustainable urbanization, providing documented evidence of their leadership at the local, national and international level.Some focus issues included unprecedented demographic, environmental, economic, social and spatial challenges.

‘One UN’ approach to Spatial Planning in "Area C" of the occupied West Bank

IMG_3560Ramallah, 14th October- The United Nations Country Team for the occupied Palestinian Territories has endorsed a joint approach towards planning in Area C entitled “One UN Approach to Spatial Planning in Area C of the occupied West Bank.”  Area C was defined in the Oslo II Accords of 1995 accounts for more than 60 percent of the West Bank's land mass and remains under Israeli control.

Calls for sustainable urbanisation as the globe celebrates World Habitat Day

New York/New Delhi/Nairobi 6 October 2015—World Habitat Day was marked on Monday with calls for sustainable urbanisation across the globe.

In a message during a World Habitat Day High Level Discussion on ‘Public Spaces for All’ In New York, United Nations Secretary General Mr. Ban Ki Moon said the recent adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) reflected an international consensus that sustainable urbanization could play a transformational role.

Urban Thinkers Campus India begins on World Habitat Day

New Delhi, 5 October 2015 The Urban Thinkers Campus (UTC) India with “The City We Need Fosters Inclusive Prosperity” as its focal theme, opened its doors for interested stakeholders on World Habitat Day. Planned as a four day intensive Campus, organized by the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA), with constituent groups drafting recommendations on “The City We Need”, this event is the first of its kind in India.
