Colombo, 1 July 2014: Fifty high level delegates from Government Ministries and partner agencies came together at a workshop held in Colombo Tuesday last week to formulate the National Habitat III Report. The workshop was convened by the Ministry of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities of the Government of Sri Lanka, following an invitation by UN-Habitat.
Indonesia renews commitment to sustainable urbanization
Jakarta, 25 June 2014: The Ministry of Public Works in Indonesia has signed an agreement with UN-Habitat renewing its commitment to the sustainable development of cities and urban areas.
The agreement was signed during a recent official two-day meeting by UN Under-Secretary-General and UN-Habitat Executive Director, Dr Joan Clos to the country.
Buenos Aires to host second Future of Places conference
Nairobi, 12 June 2014: The second Future of Places conference, organised by UN-Habitat, the Project for Public Spaces and the Ax:son Johnson Foundation, will take place 1-3 September 2014 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, it has been announced.
This is the second in a series of conferences organized to annually, in the run up to the third United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development - Habitat III - in 2016, which explores the importance of planning, design, and management of public space in addition to access.
UN-Habitat chairs cities forum at UN climate conference
Bonn, 11 June 2014: UN-Habitat has chaired a dedicated cities forum at a conference held by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change aimed at highlighting sustainable urbanisation as a key factor in addressing global climate change.
The forum is part of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action, known as ADP2014, and brought together key actors from the global debate on climate change.
New collaboration explores technological solutions to urban resilience
Barcelona, 3 June 2014: UN-Habitat’s City Resilience Profiling Programme and the Autonomous University of Barcelona’s School of Engineering have announced a new collaboration to work together in the design and construction of software to increase cities’ resilience to disasters.
One of the main objectives of this collaboration is transforming the City Resilience Profiling Tool into a more robust and user friendly Web Application with greater potential.
