New agreement establishes Myanmar climate change alliance
Nay Pyi Taw, 10 July 2014 – A Memorandum of Understanding was signed today at Amara Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw by the Ministry of Environmental Conservation and Forestry (MOECAF), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) to formalize their collaboration in the field of environment and climate change in Myanmar.
Harness IT to improve urban governance - Kacyira
Barcelona, 9 July 2014: UN Assistant Secretary-General and Deputy Executive Director of UN-Habitat, Aisa Kacyira, has said that we can improve governance in our cities and urban areas by harnessing the power of information technology.
Speaking at a conference on technology in Barcelona, Spain, Ms Kacyira said that with the world’s growing population, the number of youth in cities was also growing along with access to affordable information communication technology.
UN-Habitat hosts expert meeting on urban development fincancing
Barcelona, 2 July 2014: Fifty international experts Met in Spain for a two-day meeting on “Urban Development Financing: the Challenges of Local Governments in Developing Countries”, organized by UN-Habitat with the support of the City of Barcelona
The overall purpose of the meeting was to better understand the key elements and processes needed for local authorities to effectively use the different financing mechanisms to implement city extension plans and urban development projects.
Sri Lanka formulates National Habitat III Report
Colombo, 1 July 2014: Fifty high level delegates from Government Ministries and partner agencies came together at a workshop held in Colombo Tuesday last week to formulate the National Habitat III Report. The workshop was convened by the Ministry of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities of the Government of Sri Lanka, following an invitation by UN-Habitat.
Indonesia renews commitment to sustainable urbanization
Jakarta, 25 June 2014: The Ministry of Public Works in Indonesia has signed an agreement with UN-Habitat renewing its commitment to the sustainable development of cities and urban areas.
The agreement was signed during a recent official two-day meeting by UN Under-Secretary-General and UN-Habitat Executive Director, Dr Joan Clos to the country.
