Colombo, 15 September 2014: UN-Habitat, in partnership with the Municipal Council of Akkaraipattu, Urban Councils of Vavuniya and Mannar and the Pradeshiya Sabha of Maritimepattu (Mullaitivu), officially launched the Disaster Risk Reduction and Preparedness Plan for each City at the Water’s Edge in Battaramulla on Monday. These Plans have been developed with funding from the Government of Australia.

Yangon, 10 September, 2014- A landmark dialogue took place in early September in Yangon, Myanmar to enhance discussions between European and Asian partners on climate change and urban resilience. The aim of the Euro-Asia Dialogue organised by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) and UN-Habitat with funding from KAS and the European Union was to enhance cooperation between Europe and Asia.

Viet Nam has registered tremendous achievements in the urban housing sector over the last decade. For example, the number of housing units has increased in urban areas from 4 million in 1999 to 6.8 million in 2009. Modern housing typologies have been introduced or induced by the market and have gained in popularity, particularly high-rise multifamily apartment buildings.

Kabul, Afghanistan, 25 August 2014 – UN-Habitat held a two-day workshop in Kabul focused on urban planning as part of the Community-Based Municipal Support Programme (CBMSP). The workshop was attended by over 100 participants from the Ministry of Urban Development Affairs, the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG), Kabul Municipality and the four Provincial Municipalities where the programme is being implemented: Herat, Kandahar, Jalalabad and Mazar-e-Sharif.
