Draft New Urban Agenda approved

nua-has-been-agreedNew York 16 September 2016— Governments have agreed to the draft New Urban Agenda, the Habitat III Secretariat has announced.

Following discussions over the past four months, culminating in New York, the Secretariat announced that the agreement emanated from the Surabaya Draft which was the outcome of the third Preparatory Committee held in Indonesia in July.

Addressing the needs of slum dwellers a top priority for Government of Botswana

Gaborone, 15 September 2016—The government of Botswana has reiterated its commitment to making the needs of slum dwellers a top priority. Towards this end, Botswana’s Ministry of Lands and Housing convened a national workshop to discuss the outcomes of city and national profiles, meant to highlight urban challenges and identify corresponding actions that prevent the formation of informal settlements as well address the needs of the existing ones.

Nairobi meeting stresses synergy between airports and city stakeholders

Nairobi 08 September 2016-- Over 40 experts representing aviation and city constituencies agreed to explore ways of strengthening collaboration and cooperation between airports and urban areas. The Expert Group Meeting (EGM) was recently co-convened by UN-Habitat and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
