The Regional Reports were prepared by the respective United Nations Regional Commissions and the Regional Offices of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), in collaboration with the Habitat III Secretariat. A significant number of experts from different countries of the region representing various constituencies, including academia, civil society, United Nations agencies and programmes and governmental institutions, contributed to the preparation of the report.

UN-Habitat supports city, regional and national authorities to improve and adopt policies, plans and designs for more compact, socially inclusive, better integrated and connected cities that foster sustainable urban development and are resilient to climate change. As Myanmar is pushing for a sustainable approach to urbanization, it increasingly needs planning capacity. This document is intended to support such development of technical planning expertise.

This module carries pre-training entry level assessment as well as hands on exercise manual on Geographic Information Systems, Remote Sensing, Geographic Positioning System (GPS) and some applications of these technologies on Disaster Risk Management (DRM) especially for hazard mapping, monitoring and risk assessment module as well as the damage assessment module. Practical manual developed using open source products like Quantum GIS, RStudio, Google Earth Pro and Google Earth Engine.

This study is undertaken to provide evidence to support community exercise and perceptions on climate variabilities, extremes and observable trends in select priority areas in different climate zones for evolving better understanding of past, current and potential future climate opportunities and risks.

The study analyses current vulnerabilities, and by projecting changes in climate, anticipates further vulnerabilities in the future up to 2050. On this basis, it proposes scenarios that describe potential impact of climate change, and issues recommendations for adaptation to avoid the worst case future scenario. It also describes the expected outcomes and results, and prioritized activities that communities identified during the assessment.

Three scenarios for the future of Labutta are envisaged, taking into account the potential impact of climate change and the required adaptation and mitigation action. Recommendations are issued to avoid the worst case future scenario A, which is currently the most likely.

This assessment analyzes the vulnerability of the ecological, infrastructure and socio-economic conditions of Labutta in relation to the present and projected climatic conditions. It concludes that vulnerabilities in Labutta are currently high and that changes in climate will require decision-makers in Labutta Township to plan for increased coastal flooding, warmer temperatures, more frequent extreme heat days, greater amounts of rain within a shorter monsoon season, salinization of water…
