Country Programme Document 2018-2022 for Palestine Launched to Celebrate World Habitat Day

The UN-Habitat Country Programme Document (HCPD) is the strategic framework document through which the Special Human Settlements Programme for the Palestinian People (SHSPPP) (UN-Habitat Palestine) work with the Government of Palestine (GoP)1, represented by Ministry of Local Government (MoLG), and other stakeholders as elaborated in the MoU between GoP/MoLGand UN-Habitat (2017-2020) in understanding, analysing, designing, and implementing fit-for-purpose interventions in the fields of sustainable urbanization, spatial planning, local governance, and urban management.

UN-Habitat and partners inaugurate second community garden in Gaza Strip

Beit Lahia, Gaza Strip, 29 August 2018 – Coinciding with the Joint UN Campaign in the State of Palestine to celebrate the International Youth Day, UN-Habitat jointly with UN-Women, the Palestinian Housing Council, Aisha Association for Woman and child protection, and Gateway recently inaugurated the second safe and inclusive community garden in Beit Lahia in Gaza Strip.

First State of Palestine Cities Report recommends National Urbanization Policy

Cities throughout the world are witnessing rapid growth, thus increasing the demand for high-quality services and necessitating that governments and municipalities develop improved solutions that fulfill the requirements for sustainable urban development and assure the social, economic, and environmental interactions distinctive of cities in the modern era.

The observable acceleration in urbanization is taking place within a framework that entails expanding globalization, intensifying competition, continuous technological development, and the transformation to smart cities. Palestinian cities and urban areas are no exception in this regard; nearly 75 percent of the Palestinian population lives in urban areas that must expand their visions, objectives, and strategies towards the development and conservation of resources that will enable them to continuously and reliably respond to the needs of their residents and visitors.

Publications supporting the spatial planning initiatives in Palestine launched

Ramallah, December 19, 2016 - UN-Habitat and its national partner, State of Palestine Ministry of Local Government launched two new publications under the framework of the joint cooperation to defend and advocate for the planning rights of Palestinian communities in Area C of the West Bank that is effectively controlled by the Israeli authorities.

UN-Habitat launches Spatial Development Strategic Frameworks for Bethlehem, Qalqiliya, and Tubas Governorates

Ramallah 19 May 2016 – UN-Habitat along with the Ministry of Local Government (MoLG) and other partners has launched the Spatial Development Strategic Frameworks for Bethlehem, Qalqiliya, and Tubas Governorates with the financial support of the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (UK/DFID).
