Mid-Career Planners Trained on County Spatial Planning in Kenya

Juja 7 July 2017: Kenya has been keen to implement county spatial planning programme as the framework for county budgeting, spending and development; and especially within a fully devolved governance framework. However, the absence of spatial plans is glaring in almost all the counties with exception of Lamu County that has successfully completed and approved its county spatial plan.

Mendoza hosts first Argentina National Urban Forum

Mendoza, 11 July 2017 - The first National Urban Forum (NUF) of Argentina, and the first in the Southern Cone after the adoption of the New Urban Agenda at the Habitat III conference in Quito in October 2016, took place at the end of June.

The forum was attended by the Executive Director of UN-Habitat, Dr. Joan Clos, Undersecretary of Habitat and Human Development, Marina Klemensiewicz, Undersecretary of Territorial Planning of Public Investment, Fernando Álvarez de Celis, the Governor of Mendoza, Alfredo Cornejo and the Mayor of the city of Mendoza Rodolfo Suarez, among others.

Renowned Japanese architect to support UN-Habitat in refugee camp design

Nairobi, 10 July 2017 – Renowned architect, Shigeru Ban, will visit the Kalobeiyei refugee settlement site in Northern Kenya this week as part of a newly-established partnership with UN-Habitat.

Under a partnership with VAN, the Voluntary Architects Network, Mr Ban will develop potential shelter designs for residents of the camp based on socio-economic needs and available data from UN-Habitat.  The two organizations will also conduct participatory design workshops with the community, and develop and propose a shelter design model.

UN-Habitat joins forces with partners to address living housing needs of refugees, migrants

Berlin, 04 July 2017-- In order to address the rising tide of refugees and migrants over the years, UN-Habitat co-launched the Mediterranean City-to-City Migration (MC2CM) project that brings together experts and cities to contribute towards improved migration governance at city level, including migrants' access to housing, basic services and human rights.
