Urbanization highlighted at the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum

Saint Petersburg 12 June 2017 -- This year’s Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) was held over three days with a keynote speech by the President of Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and attended by more than 14,000 thousand participants from 143 countries. Guests of the Forum included Presidents and Prime Ministers, as well as 45 Ministers from 30 countries.

The SPIEF, being held since 1997, is one of the best-attended events on business and economy.

Managing land conflict in Congo DRC, Bunia

06 June 2017 - When land associated violence rocked her Bunia hometown in Ituri Province, Ms.  Louise Tajeki gathered her earthly possessions and together with her family fled to Beni in another part of the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2003.

It was not until months later when the situation stabilised that she was able to move back to her home, having tasted the bitter fruits of communal warfare. This flight made her experience firsthand the problems evictees go through.

The implementation of the New Urban Agenda in the Amazon Region

On 17 and 18 May, an Expert Group Meeting (EGM) was held in the city of Belém, Brazil, for debating the implementation of the New Urban Agenda in the Amazon Region. Organized by UN-Habitat with the support of the State Government of Pará and Dialog Institute, the event put emphasis on two themes: “Funding System for Sustainable Urban/Territorial Development in the State of Pará” and “Towards Sustainability of Cities and Human Settlements in the Amazon Region”.

Government and Urban Stakeholders Aim to Build Climate Resiliency through Urban Plans and Designs

17 May 2017; Quezon City, Philippines - Responding to the compelling challenges of rapid urbanization and climate change, the project “Building Climate Resiliency through Urban Plans and Designs” was launched on 17 May 2017 led by the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLURB) Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer Lloyd Christopher Lao together with key government agencies involved in planning for urban development and climate change.
