Results of a national public consultation undertook by UN-Habitat in partnership with Colab to collect the perception of Brazilian city dwellers to stablish a diagnosis of the achievement of SDG 11 (sustainable cities and communities). The results are aimed at supporting municipal authorities by orientating public policies to address the challenges of urbanisation.

The GG-CDS aims to strengthen urban management in the city and institutional frameworks which deal with infrastructure, the services sector, and natural resource management.

The report looks at the intersection of slums and informal settlements and the informal economy, to raise awareness amongst communities, local authorities, NGOs and other urban actors of the potential of the local economy in informal settlements – much of which is also informal – as a key component of participatory slum upgrading, to contribute to economic development and poverty reduction.

The United Nations Advisory Committee of Local Authorities (UNACLA) was established in 1999 by the Governing Council Resolution 17/18 as “an advisory body that would serve the purpose of strengthening the dialogue with local authorities from all over the world involved in the implementation of the Habitat Agenda”. UNACLA was created in the aftermath of Habitat II (1996) to materialize the special relation of local authorities as “our closest partners” as stated in the Istanbul Declaration.
