Physical Damage Assessment of Private Schools in Response to the Beirut Port Explosions 2020 The 4 August 2020 Port of Beirut explosions resulted in devastating loss of life, injury and the destruction of vast tracts of urban fabric within the Municipality of Beirutand beyond. Based on initial assessment undertaken by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEHE), and according to UNESCO, within a 20km radius of the blast, around 80 per cent of schools experienced moderate damage and 20 per cent sustained heavy damage.
Effectiveness of Planning Law in Land-Rich Developed Countries 2020 UN-Habitat has conducted an objective, evidence-based assessment on the application of physical planning laws in 18 cities of the Land-Rich Developed Countries Region. The selection of cities is based on the UN Global Sample of 200 cities as a statistically and regionally representative dataset. The study considers whether the law is being applied as written and informs the discussion on the effectiveness of legislative design. This publication portrays the findings from the study with empirical data on growth boundaries, population density, compliance with spatial planning and zoning, land management and staffing capacity. City managers in Land-Rich Developed Countries can use this information to rethink the sustainability of their urbanization model and to help them create systems that can result in equity, shared prosperity and environmental sustainability. These are key principles embodied under the New Urban Agenda and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – particularly Goal 11.

Ethiopia’s Non-Motorised Transport (NMT) Policy 2020-2029 has been launched on the World Bicycle Day on 3rd July 2020 and spells out the country’s commitment and measures on walking and cycling planned for the next 10 years to improve mobility, road safety and facilitate inclusive urbanisation.
SDG Project Assessment Tool – Volume 2: User Guide 2020 This User Guide outlines the application of the SDG Project Assessment Tool. The five steps are described, including the objective, participants and timeframe of each step. The SDG Project Assessment Tool (referred to as SDG Tool) is developed by UN-Habitat as an offline, digital and user-friendly instrument to guide City Authorities and Delivery Partners in the development of more inclusive, sustainable and effective urban projects. The main purpose of the SDG Tool is to increase the alignment of selected urban projects to the SDG’s and their city’s contexts.
Darfur Land Administration Assessment: Analysis and Recommendations 2020 The report assesses the statutory and customary land administration systems in the five Darfur states and provides guidance on how to secure land and property rights of the people voluntarily returning to Darfur and of other vulnerable groups - such as IDPs, refugees, women and youth. The report also looks at the functioning of land administration and how it can be improved in a fit-for-purpose, incremental and feasible manner for the benefit of the whole Darfur’s population. An adequate and effective land management system will be essential for supporting Darfur’s transition from the humanitarian to the development phase, ensuring its social and economic development and the success of peace and stabilization efforts. The report is the result of field assessment, interviews and consultations with key informants from key UN organisations, UNAMID, Darfur Land Commission, Voluntary Return and Resettlements Commission, NGOs, government representatives, tribal leaders, native judicial administrations, displaced people, nomads and famers.
Informe Local Voluntario – Trujillo, Peru 2020 The city of Trujillo in Peru, within the framework of the "Accountability Systems for Measuring, Monitoring and Reporting on Sustainable City Policies in Latin America" project has produced its first voluntary local report on Trujillo's progress towards SDG 11.
