More than 400 participants converge in Quito to debate sustainable construction

Quito 28 April 2015-- More than 400 participants recently converged in Quito, Ecuador for the first International Forum on Sustainable Cities and Buildings that addressed various topics around sustainable construction. The event was organized by the Secretariat of Territory, Habitat and Housing and the Secretariat of Environment of the Metropolitan District of Quito (MDQ), in cooperation with the Ecuadorian Green Building Council (CEES).

Experts from Eastern Europe discuss preparations for Habitat III

Minsk, 25 March 2015 - National coordinators and experts from Armenia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova and Russia met in the Republic of Belarus, earlier this month to discuss preparations for the Habitat III, the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development. The participants discussed the draft national reports for Habitat III as well as the first regional conclusions, important steps on the road to the conference.

UN-Habitat hosts a side event on cities in New York

New York, 17 March 2015 - During the 59th session on the Commission for the Status of Women, the side event Habitat III, Beijing+20 and the City We Need was hosted by the Deputy Executive Director of UN-Habitat, Ms. Aisa Kirabo Kacyira. Other distinguished panelists at the event included Ms. Suneeta Dhar of JAGORI; Mr. Moez Doraid from UN WOMEN; Ms. Olenka Ochoa of FEMUM and Ms. Jan Peterson from the Huairou Commission.

Regional and Thematic meetings

Regional and thematic meetings for the preparatory process of Habitat III

A number of official regional and thematic high level meetings involving a wide range of participants will debate priorities for the New Urban Agenda and policy recommendations in the form of a final participants' declaration. The final declaration from regional and thematic meetings will be considered official inputs to the Habitat III process.

We committed ourselves to implement the Habitat Agenda – Ban Ki-moon

New York, 17 September 2014 – The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Ban Ki-moon, told member state representatives that guided by the principles of the Charter of the United Nations, and considering that human beings are at the centre of concerns surrounding sustainable development, we are committed to implement the Habitat Agenda. 

Mr. Ban made the comments at the opening of the first session of the Preparatory Committee for Habitat III which opened today at the UN Headquarters in New York.
