To celebrate UN World Cities Day, the University of Warwick is holding a half-day event to showcase cities research. Besides offering the opportunity to hear more about the wide variety of research being undertaken in the cities space, this event will also offer the opportunity to network and explore collaborative opportunities with researchers and others keen to address the challenges that cities face.
The Catalan Government, the Barcelona City Council, the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona, and the Catalan Fund for Development Cooperation are giving support to the Lebanon Host Communities Support Project (LHSP) of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Specifically, they agreed to work jointly within the Al Fayhaa Union of Municipalities in order to support the Union in mitigating the effects of the influx of Syrian displaced in the solid waste management sector.

This event will take place in Paris, New York, Honolulu, Jakarta and other FIABCI cities around the world. Global cities are unable to meet a rising demand for affordable and inclusive urbanity. Complex metropolitan governance calls for more coordinated efforts from national, regional, and local governments and better dialogue and cooperation between the private and public sectors together with civil society.
Metropolitan Day 2018
The Metropolitan Day global campaign 2018 is a joint initiative developed by several international partners, including CIPPEC, the Inter-American Development Bank, Metropolis, UN Habitat MetroHUB, the University of Guadalajara, the Politecnico di Milano, Metropolitan and Territorial Planning Agencies (MTPA), Fundação Getulio Vargas - CEAPG, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit and Trasnversal, with the goal of honouring the Montreal Declaration on Metropolitan Areas and also, the Urban October UN Habitat.
