This publication is the strategic framework document through which the Special Human Settlements Programme for the Palestinian People work with the Government of Palestine and other stakeholders and it focuses on analyzing, designing, and implementing fit-for-purpose interventions in the fields of sustainable urbanization, spatial planning, local governance, and urban management.

The profile provides a synopsis on the main urbanization trends and challenges facing the people of Palestine, and the interventions coordinated and spearheaded by UN-Habitat in partnership with local and national stakeholders to localize the Sustainable Development Goals, especially Goal 11 and the New Urban Agenda.

This report presents concise and up-to-date data, information, and analyses of the urban contexts in Palestine; indicate urbanization trends and forces; and highlight recent debates and initiatives regarding the urban dynamics in Palestine.

Cities throughout the world are witnessing rapid growth, thus increasing the demand for high-quality services and necessitating that governments and municipalities develop improved solutions that fulfill the requirements for sustainable urban development and assure the social, economic, and environmental interactions distinctive of cities in the modern era.
