Urban Economy
Urban economy is focused on promoting urban strategies and policies that strengthen the capacity of cities to realize their full potential as drivers of economic development, and of wealth and employment creation. Special attention is paid to the formulation and implementation of urban strategies and policies that promote and boost the participation of both men and women, enhance municipal finance and contribute to the creation of decent urban jobs and livelihoods that increase economic empowerment, in particular for youth and women.
LED can lead to economic solutions that 'fit' the local areas - that is, that build on local assets and strengths, involve local people and build capacity, and have greater buy in from the community ( a key component to ongoing viability of the project).
This report provides further evidence of the importance of equity and the growing recognition of its importance to development. A host of countries now recognize equity as a central goal of the development agenda as the United Nations High Level Panel (HLP) on the Post-2015 recommended.
