New Programme to assist Urban Economic Development

Johannesburg, 01 December 2015 - The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), the Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies of the Rotterdam Erasmus University (HIS/Erasmus) and Oxford Economics today revealed, at the AfriCities Conference in Johannesburg, a major new programme to assist urban economic development in Africa through foreign direct investment.

Africities 2015 kicks off with urbanisation taking centre stage

Johannesburg 01 December 2015—The Africities 2015 kicked off in Johannesburg on Sunday with urbanisation taking the centre stage. In his official opening speech, South Africa’s Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation gave UN-Habitat a vote of thanks of sorts when he quoted extensively from its State of African Cities Report 2014.

UN-Habitat supports ICT infrastructure in Somaliland

Hargeisa, 27 November 2015-- Through the UN Joint Programme on Local Governance and Decentralized Service Delivery, UN-Habitat is supporting the implementation of a Financial Management Information System (FMIS) in Somaliland. FMIS is a World Bank–supported automation solution that enables governments to plan, execute, and monitor their budget by assisting in the prioritization, execution, and reporting of expenditures.
