UN-Habitat and Myanmar sign MoU to support impoverished communities

Nay Pyi Taw, November 09, 2016—UN-Habitat has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Rural Development (DRD) under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation of the Government of Myanmar. It is envisioned that by the end of the new MoU in 2018, over 1.8 million people in 1,314 villages (25 townships) would have benefited from WASH, community infrastructure, electricity and housing projects.

Chokwe community implements its urban resilience plan

Chokwe, Mozambique 2 November 2016--Between August and September 2015, DiMSUR - the Technical Centre for Disaster Risk Management, Sustainability and Urban Resilience (DiMSUR) founded by governments of Mozambique, Madagascar, Malawi, Comoros and UN-Habitat - conducted the City Resilience Action Planning (cityRAP) Tool process in Chokwe municipality in Mozambique with participation of the local community.

UN-Habitat hosts ‘Urban Crisis Response’ conference in Lebanon

Beirut, 2 November 2016—UN-Habitat hosted a conference on “Urban Crisis Response” to examine and discuss the plethora of challenges facing Lebanon’s urban population. Under the patronage of the Ministry of Social Affairs, and on the occasion of the World Cities Day 2016, the Conference focused on building a platform for exchange between various stakeholders engaged in urban response.

UN-Habitat Launches Publication on Urban Labs approach at Habitat III

Quito, Ecuador 01 November 2016--- UN-Habitat through its Urban Planning and Design Lab launched its Urban Labs publication to great acclaim in an event at the One UN Pavilion at the Habitat III Conference. The event featured several partners from the Global Network of Planning Labs who reported on their individual and localized experience.
