UN-Habitat Goes Global with New Arabic Website
Cairo, 12 October 2016 – Today UN-Habitat launches its global website in Arabic, ar.unhabitat.org, as well as two new social media channels on Twitter and Facebook reporting globally on UN-Habitat’s updates and activities in Arabic.
UN-Habitat, ADB and partners launch climate resilience project
Phnom Penh, Cambodia 16 September 2016 – A consortium comprising of UN-Habitat, Forum Syd and Save the Earth Cambodia with the financial support from the Asian Development Bank launched a project in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment in Cambodia on mainstreaming climate resilience into development planning.
Draft New Urban Agenda approved
New York 16 September 2016— Governments have agreed to the draft New Urban Agenda, the Habitat III Secretariat has announced.
Following discussions over the past four months, culminating in New York, the Secretariat announced that the agreement emanated from the Surabaya Draft which was the outcome of the third Preparatory Committee held in Indonesia in July.
Joint programme continues to see real results in second phase
The United Nations Joint Programme on Local Governance and Decentralized Service Delivery (JPLG) in Somalia involves UN-Habitat and four other UN agencies. The first phase of JPLG began in 2008 and ended in 2012. JPLG II (2013–2017) is now being completed in Somaliland and the Puntland State of Somalia, with plans to expand to newly emerging Somali states (e.g. Juba). Broadly, JPLG works towards the transparent, accountable, and efficient provision of local services. Within the programme, UN-Habitat is responsible for:
