Central and North Asian Countries Participate in Consultations on Asia and Pacific Cities 2019 Report

Geneva, October 2018 – Policymakers and urban experts from North and Central Asia have met in Geneva to discuss the Future of Asia and Pacific Cities 2019 Report and exchange experiences on managing challenges to sustainable urbanization that are unique to the region. Countries in the sub-region which were participating for the first time in consultations on the Asia and Pacific report series shared best practices on sustainable urbanization.

Press Release: Abu Dhabi Signs Agreement with UN-Habitat to Host 10th World Urban Forum in 2020

UAE will be first Arab country to host landmark United Nations Forum

ABU DHABI, 17 October 2018: Today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MOFAIC) and the Abu Dhabi Department of Urban Planning and Municipalities signed an Agreement with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) for Abu Dhabi to host the tenth session of the World Urban Forum (WUF10) in 2020. This will be the first time an Arab country hosts the landmark Forum.

One Hundred Youth Receive Training on Solar Street Lighting to Curb Urban Insecurity

Workshop Promotes Sustainable Social Housing Projects in India

Delhi, 9 October 2018 -  Findings of research conducted since 2016 by UN-Habitat, Oxford Brookes University (OBU), The Energy and Resource Institute (TERI), and Development Alternatives (DA) were presented at a national workshop on Mainstreaming Sustainable Social Housing in India Project (MaS-SHIP). Funded by the United Nations Sustainable Buildings and Construction Programme the workshop aims to identify sustainable, innovative and affordable means of improving housing construction.

Stakeholders Endorse Proposed Integrated Waste Management Facility for Kajiado County

Nairobi, 11 October 2018 – A stakeholder workshop convened jointly by UN-Habitat and the Government of Kenya has validated findings of the environmental and social impact assessment of closing the Ngong dumpsite and commissioning the new Kajiado Integrated Sustainable Waste Management (KISWAM) facility. Key stakeholders in the project include the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, the Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI) and the County Government of Kajiado.

UN Habitat leads discussions on creating opportunities for urban youth at Kigali Summit

Kigali, Rwanda, 11 October 2018 –Drawing from its vast experience in working with urban youth globally, UN-Habitat shared lessons learnt at the African Youth Conneckt Urban Session 2018.

Over 5,000 participants attended the inaugural UN-Habitat Urban Youth Connekt Session at the Youth Connekt Summit to share ideas on enhancing innovation, building strong partnerships, financing young entrepreneurs and developing policies that are responsive to the needs of the youth.

Kenya’s President and UN-Habitat join Nairobi residents in monthly clean-up

Nairobi 8 October 2018 – Following the launch of UN-Habitat’s new campaign to reduce the amount of global waste, President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya joined Nairobi’s Governor Mr. Mike Mbuvi Sonko, the Executive Director of UN-Environment Mr. Erik Solheim and UN-Habitat Deputy Executive Director Mr. Victor Kisob to clean up the mounds of rubbish at Uhuru Market in the Kenyan capital.

They were joined by officials from the Environment Ministry, county government officials and  private sector companies.

Country Programme Document 2018-2022 for Palestine Launched to Celebrate World Habitat Day

Ramallah, 2 October 2018 – UN-Habitat and the Government of Palestine launched the new Habitat Country Programme Document for Palestine (HCPD) 2018-2022 as part of celebrations to mark World Habitat Day observed on the first Monday of October to draw global attention to UN-Habitat’s efforts to promote sustainable urban development policies and ensure adequate shelter for all. This year’s theme is Managing Municipal Solid Waste.
