Ramadi, 20 March 2017 –UN-Habitat recently handed over 489 housing units in Ramadi that were rehabilitated or installed under the project “Promoting Urban Recovery in Newly Liberated Areas in Iraq”. The project undertaken by UN-Habitat Iraq Programme, was generously funded by the Government of Japan.

Football Pitch Make-over through Design Thinking
A lot was happening in Mlango Kubwa’s football pitch last week. Mlango Kubwa is a ward in the Mathare informal settlement in Kenya. Mathare has approximately 500,000 residence; Mango Kubwa itself has approximately 50,000 residents of which 70% of the population is 24 and under.
After its inauguration by the UN Secretary-General, Mr. Antonio Guterres, it became the centerpiece of Design Thinking workshop organized to give it a sustainable make-over.

Invitation open for 7th Shelter academy for local government leaders
Nairobi, 14 March 2017-- Mayors, vice-mayors, decision makers and policy makers of cities and local governments are invited to apply for the 7th Shelter Academy organized by Arcadis and UN Habitat. This year’s Shelter Academy will take place from the 4th until the 8th of September 2016 in the Netherlands.
Making the announcement, UN-Habitat said that this is a high-level workshop addressed to local officials and senior-level policy and decision makers focusing on cities and climate change adaptation and mitigation.
Kabul launches Clean and Green Cities in Nahias 1 and 2
Kabul, Afghanistan 9 March 2017 – Kabul Mayor Abdullah Habibzai has launched the ground activities for citywide cleaning, greening and beautification services in Nahias 1 and 2. These activities are part of the Clean and Green Cities Programme which will implement area-based upgrading and citywide services in Kabul. The programme is a labour intensive services delivery aimed at stimulating and creating jobs in the market. The event was organized at the Kabul Municipality.
