This initiative has been requested by the European Parliament. It is implemented by European Commission and UN-Habitat, supported by the International Growth Centre. These partners are working to identify relevant measures to help mobilise financing for urban development at all levels of government.

In cities and urban areas in East Africa, livelihoods and incomes of populations are seriously affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly for those living in informal settlements. These urban populations are more vulnerable to food insecurity and unstable livelihoods as they mainly depend on the informal sector. It is estimated that the number of food insecure people in East Africa will increase to more than 41 million people because of COVID-19 including 14 million urban dwellers.

This report outlines the results of the research and capacity development activity undertaken by UN-Habitat and Politecnico di Milano's Department of Architecture and Urban Studies, MS Lab, in the West Nile Region, Uganda. The main findings are synthesized with the aim of providing a set of recommendations to support strategic frameworks at regional, city and neighborhood scales to promote synergic development.

This report summarizes the discussions from the 2019 East African Regional Dialogue on Migration and Development in Cities organized by UN-Habitat, UNCTAD, and IOM in Entebbe, Uganda. The two-day dialogue brought together representatives from Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia to exchange best practices for fostering social and economic inclusion of migrants, refugees and IDPs in different local contexts.

The MetroHUB Planning Studio in Arua, Uganda (20 - 22 March 2018) - a pilot capacity development activity for fostering an integrated territorial development approach - was initiated and supported by the Ugandan Support for Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) Program.
