UN-Habitat’s Global Public Space Programme, launched in 2012, is now active in more than 30 cities across the world. We produce policy guides, share knowledge and carry out advocacy work to promote public space as a key element to ensure good quality of life for all urban residents.

The purpose of this report is to assess the situation of women and youth in Saudi cities.The study includes data extracted from four different studies in order to find a more comprehensive and clear understanding of the nature of life in the cities, as well as the themes referred to by the initiative of the prosperity of cities.

This report looks closely at the three main elements that made the programme a success – the participation of people from the inception to the end, the diverse partnerships – donors, government, community based organizations that brought people together to implement the projects and the new and innovative technologies that were introduced to make the programme cost effective and sustainable.

The publication’s purpose is to account for this unprecedented global momentum for resilience-building from an urban standpoint: inquiring the trends that drive the theory, investigating how these were gradually incorporated in development agendas, mapping the diverse landscape of actors involved, and analysing how this perspective shift can be translated into forward-looking urban policies and practices.

Over the past 30 years, the number, scope and complexity of tools for assessing the environmental impact of buildings has increased dramatically.
