Leveraging Land: Land-based Finance for Local Governments. A Trainer’s Guide 2016 This guide is intended for trainers and facilitators in the GLTN and UN-Habitat Land-based Finance (LBF) Training course. LBF is a collective name given to a range of instruments by which local governments expand their revenue base and generate funds that will help them realize their service delivery, infrastructure development and maintenance goals. The broader contexts within which this tool is being developed are local governance and sustainable urbanization. The LBF tool is premised on the fact that urban land is a key factor of production and an important source of financing for urban development, including infrastructure, social housing and basic services.

Social Safeguards Basic & Advanced (Training Module) 2016 This training module will introduce concepts in relation to environmental and social safeguards which will protect both the environment and the people from adverse effects of development projects, particularly from citywide infrastructure projects. Moreover, it will introduce the social safeguard planning, tools and practical guides in a broader perspective to create a foundation to localize and adopt social safeguard tools and mechanisms in the process of planning, designing and implementing citywide infrastructure projects. Finally, this training module will be able to guide the participants to explore and understand in‐depth the roles, functions and tasks of safeguards in the operational practices. A practical work of identifying and analysing development induced social issues will be undertaken during the training through group work/exercise.
Urban Development Initiative (UrDI) For the Canaan Area of Port-Au-Prince, Neighbourhood Plan: Canaan II, 2016 2016 Canaan II, located on the west of the central area of Canaan, has a population of 12,100. It is considered a low density neighbourhood with 4.383 inhab. per km2 and therefore its densification is encouraged. A large part of Canaan II borders the National Road 1 to the south but there is almost no access from it to the neighbourhood. The presence of quarries and the complex topography limit the availability of suitable lands.
Designing and Implementing Street-Led Citywide Slum Upgrading Programmes: A training module companion 2016 With the number of slum dwellers expected to reach 889 million by 2020 it has been recognized that there is a need to move away from piecemeal project-based slum upgrading interventions. Instead, it is necessary to bring slum upgrading to a citywide scale and implement a twin-track approach that promotes both the upgrading of existing slums and simultaneously uses policy to prevent the multiplication of slums and urban informality.
