RUSPS Evaluation 2006Various stakeholders of the Rapid Urban Sector Profiling for Sustainability (RUSPS) programme completed a total of 39 questionnaires providing the RUSPS Team at headquarters access to solid data and insights. In general, the evaluation shows that RUSPS achieved very positive results in 16 different countries that completed RUSPS Phase 1, the Urban Sector Profiling for Sustainability.

First PNG National Urban Forum - Statement of Outcomes and RecommendationsThe first PNG National Urban Forum was held on 22-23 October 2012, at the PNG Institute of Public Administration, Waigani, NCD, and was attended by over 800 delegates from PNG and overseas. The Forum was organised by the Office of Urbanization and hosted by the Minister for Housing and Urban Development.

In Tanzania, the profiling was undertaken under the principal leadership of Professor B.B.K. Majani, of the University College of Lands and Architectural Studies (UCLAS), and national and local authorities. This initiative has been carried out locally in Dar es Salaam, Bagamoyo, and Morogoro as well as nationally.

The National Urban Profile focuses on the findings of a desk-study, interviews with key actors and a town consultation with key urban actors and institutions. Consultation participants agreed to address the salient urban issues including poverty, insecurity, corruption, pollution and crime all problems that negatively affect investments and economic development.

A consensus was reached on priority interventions in the form of programme and project proposals to be implemented.

Mozambique: National Urban Profile

Mozambique, which is located on the south eastern coast of Africa, has a population of 20 million. Emerging from a devastating civil war in 1992, the country has grown at an annual rate of nearly 10 percent. The post war recovery has been described as a success story. Mozambique, like other developing countries, is facing a new problem related to the new urban migrants.

Mozambique’s urban population is made up of 7 millions inhabitants. Most of the urban population in Mozambique live in informal settlements with no access to basic urban services. Mozambique has partnered with UN-HABITAT with the joint objective of improving the living conditions of the urban poor.
