Photo Contest “Visions of the Urban Future“

Urban Futures will illustrate ideas from around the world about the future of urban development and cities. Rather than focusing on technological innovation, infrastructure and mobility we understanding the city as a social space. A citizen science approach allows us to go beyond existing knowledge of urban specialists.

Within this project we invite photographers around the world to engage creatively with the topic “city as a social space” and to submit their photographs by 30 June 2018.

The Government of Japan opens the UN-Habitat Community Center for refugees and host community in Kalobeyei Settlement.

NAIROBI, May 15, 2018 - UN-Habitat has been supporting integrated settlement of refugee and host communities in Kalobeyei, Kenya since 2016 with support from the Government of Japan. Youth have been involved in design and construction of a community center through a participatory process involving the two communities.

NAIROBI, 11 May 2018 – Response to the Rohingya crisis led by the Government of Bangladesh with support from the international community comprises temporarily accommodation for refugees in Cox’s Bazar until conditions are conducive for their return, and assistance to host communities to mitigate the negative socio-economic impact of the crisis.

Resilient Cities: Strengthening the Humanitarian-Development Nexus

From the 1st to the 3rd of May, the 2018 Integration Segment of ECOSOC was held in New York under the theme “Innovative communities: leveraging technology and innovation to build sustainable and resilient societies”. There, several stakeholders analysed pathways to build resilience and discussed the importance of engaging different actors from the international arena in doing so.

UN-Habitat and Think City sign MOU aimed at bettering cities in Malaysia and across the globe

London, April 30, 2018: Today UN-Habitat signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Think City, a Malaysian non-profit organization to initiate a strategic partnership to advocate and promote the New Urban Agenda (NUA) and the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), specifically SDG 11, which aims to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
