The First International Forum on Urban-Rural Linkages took place in Songyang County, Lishui City, Zhejiang Province, China, between 10 to 14 November 2019.

The decision by UN-Habitat to hold a Global Stakeholder Forum at the first session of the United Nations UN-Habitat Assembly, 27 – 31 May 2019, represents a significant milestone towards the agency’s inclusive approach on partnerships. The forum was convened to bring together all partners: United Nations entities, governments and stakeholders to share views and experiences on the challenges and opportunities of global trends within the scope of urbanization and human settlements.

The World Urban Forum is the world’s premier conference on urban issues. It was established by the United Nations to examine one of the most pressing issues facing the world today: rapid urbanization and its impact on communities, cities, economies, climate change and policies. The Forum is held in a different host city and country biennially, drawing a wide range of experts from every walk of life.

The Country Activities Report 2019 provides an evolving picture of UN-Habitat’s projects and programmes portfolio from 2018 onwards. It opens a window on the most recent activities taking place on the ground. In that connection, its scope is restricted to featuring digestible information on selected ongoing activities supporting an effective and timely delivery on UN-Habitat’s mandate.

The United Nations Advisory Committee of Local Authorities (UNACLA) was established in 1999 by the Governing Council Resolution 17/18 as “an advisory body that would serve the purpose of strengthening the dialogue with local authorities from all over the world involved in the implementation of the Habitat Agenda”. UNACLA was created in the aftermath of Habitat II (1996) to materialize the special relation of local authorities as “our closest partners” as stated in the Istanbul Declaration.
