Cities for Girls, Cities for All is the report from the Vinnova Innovation for Gender Equality Project. It show cases the results of the Her City toolbox, the implementation of our partnership projects, but also provides guidelines for gender and intersectional sensitive participatory planning, design and implementation.

Urban areas account for two thirds of greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption, making them major contributors to climate change. Cities are already suffering from extreme weather events, flooding, subsidence, storms, heat waves, water scarcity, droughts, and sea-level rise, among other climate change effects. Additionally, the laws, institutions, and policies governing urban planning in cities have unintended effects on their capacity to adapt to the changing climate.

Her City supports urban development from a girl’s perspective. It guides urban actors to implement projects through a step-by-step methodology providing an open and digitally accessible platform for all.

UN-Habitat’s Catalogue of Services provides the current range of ways in which the organization can support national and local governments, partners and stakeholders to address their development challenges and advance sustainable and inclusive urban development using its services, expertise and tools.

The ‘Kakuma-Kalobeyei Future Vision’ proposes a collective vision of what the host and refugee communities of Kakuma-Kalobeyei could become in 10-15 years’ time. Developed in line with a whole-of-society approach, informed by government and transnational policies, community perspectives and sound urban planning principles, this vision lays the foundation for the social, economic and spatial regeneration of these communities in Turkana County, Kenya.

The Plan Assessment Tool helps assess the various sectoral aspects as well as the proposed strategies within city-wide plans, especially in small to medium-sized cities where a single document can cover all topics as well as geographic areas.

Over the last decade, UN-Habitat has utilised participatory approaches in urban planning processes to support the creation of Kalobeyei Settlement, the regeneration of Kakuma Camps, and the development of a socio-economic corridor, in alignment to KISEDP, Kenya. Throughout these experiences, practitioners have recognized the importance of the design and integration of participatory approaches to elevate the role of every participant.

Our City Plans, formerly known as Participatory Incremental Urban Planning (PIUP), is a toolbox that allows local governments and urban actors to implement projects, plans, and planning processes. It guides them through a step-by-step methodology that includes the assessment, planning, operationalisation and implementation phases, organized in blocks and supported by different activities and tools.
