International Guidelines on Urban Territorial Planning: Report 2018-2020 – Implementing the International Guidelines on Urban Territorial Planning 2018-2020 2021 The report covers the second biennium of implementation of the Guidelines and builds upon the results of the Global Survey on Urban and Territorial Planning formulated by UN-Habitat in September 2019, and upon case studies, regular newsletters, online sources, and partner websites advocating for the guidelines. It is a compilation of exercises and finding in using the Guidelines, to track the adoption and use among Member States and partners.

The global extreme poverty rate rose for the first time in over 20 years, and 119 to 124 million people were pushed back into extreme poverty in 2020. There is a risk of a generational catastrophe regarding schooling, where an additional 101 million children have fallen below the minimum reading proficiency level, potentially wiping out two decades of education gains.
A study on gender equity in Greater Cairo’s public transport system 2021 Until recently, transport planning operated under the assumption that women and men benefit from services equally. Reality, however, dictates a different experience for women and men. UN Habitat Egypt in partnership with the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA), UN Women, and Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP), undertook this study which included a series of surveys and focus group discussions with commuters in the city to develop a better understanding of the challenges women face while using the transport system. The results can help inform the transportation planning process, ensuring the inclusion of data-driven gender concerns in the service plan and infrastructure designs.

Designing with Children In Displacement (DeCID) handbook 2021 This handbook aims to raise the number and quality of built interventions that have been co-designed with children affected by displacement in the urban context: ultimately advancing their wellbeing. It provides practical insights regarding interventions that put children’s wellbeing first, and at the intersection of participatory design, forced displacement, and the urban context.
Lebanon’s National Urban Policy Synthesis Report: Intersection of Housing and Transport 2021 UN-Habitat Lebanon has produced two guides that detail how to mainstream housing and transport–mobility into a future National Urban Policy (NUP) in the country. The making of inclusive and sustainable communities is deeply rooted in the interconnectedness of the housing and transport sectors, along with other sectors.
Waste Wise Cities Newsletter 10 - April 2021 2021 The Waste Wise Cities Newsletter is published bi-monthly and provides articles on different waste-related topics, e.g. the Sustainable Development Goals, Tools and certain waste management technologies, introduces Waste Wise Cities Affiliates, gives updates about activities and highlights upcoming and past events. At the moment the newsletter is available in English, French and Spanish.
Financing Sustainable Urban Development 2021 This initiative has been requested by the European Parliament. It is implemented by European Commission and UN-Habitat, supported by the International Growth Centre. These partners are working to identify relevant measures to help mobilise financing for urban development at all levels of government.
