| Urban-LEDS I Newsletter #4 | 2015 | The Urban-LEDS project promotes low-emission urban development strategies in emerging economy countries. Jointly implemented by ICLEI and UN-Habitat and funded by the European Commission, it helps cities to pursue low-carbon, sustainable development. This newsletter gives a small roundup of exciting developments since the last edition in February, stretching from the advocacy realm to the 2nd Urban-LEDS International Networking Seminar in Bogor, Indonesia. A variety of people and actors are involved in this project helping these 29 emerging economy cities to be(come) healthy and sustainable places to live, work and thrive for everyone. No obstante este camino de varias décadas recorridas, son pocos los arreglossupramunicipales que han dado fruto y se han consolidado de manera exitosa. Actualmente Colombia cuenta con 6 áreas metropolitanas conformadas jurídicay administrativamente, que reúnen en su conjunto aproximadamente el 20% de lapoblación nacional, y con una cantidad parecida de esquemas asociativos que se hanfortalecido desde la entrada en vigencia de la Ley Orgánica de Ordenamiento Territorial(LOOT) sancionada en 2011. |

| Enhancing and Developing Seismic Risk Assessment for Taungoo City of Myanmar | 2015 | This paper tends to estimate the damage and casualties, to develop seismic risk and related assessment of building structures (Public, Private, and Pagodas) for the maximum estimated seismic scenarios in Taungoo City. The study findings will lead to develop comprehensive risk reduction programs addressing the specific vulnerabilities as well as guide the future development in the cities along with UN-Habitat’s Myanmar Comprehensive Disaster Risk Reduction Programme and also with broader DRR-WG activities and those of Government. |
| Urban Energy Technical Note 13: Daylighting | 2015 | It is estimated that buildings use more than 40% of the total energy generated for heating, cooling and lighting, among other uses. Many people still depend on artificial light during the day. This may be due to inefficient design and construction using climate inappropriate materials, combined with poor understanding of thermal comfort, passive building principles and energy conscious behaviour. All these factors contribute to tremendous energy wastage. |

| Kibera: Integrated Water Sanitation and Waste Management Project | 2014 | This book documents the processes, challenges and related successes of a pilot project on slum upgrading in Soweto East villages of Kibera informal settlement, Nairobi. As a post project intervention assessment report, it focuses on distilling lessons learnt and best practices with a view of informing future strategies and policy decisions on slum upgrading interventions for similar urban settlements in any part of the world. The process of community engagement and their role as an integral part of the Kenya Slum Upgrading Programme structure is a clear manifestation of the importance of public private partnership in forging a common front for the improvement of living standards for the slum populace. |
