Annual progress report 2016 2016 This is the third Annual Progress Report on the implementation of the six-year strategic plan (2014-2019) prepared in accordancewith the Governing Council resolution 25/3 of April 2015. The strategic plan is being implemented through three successive biennial work programmes and budgets (GC resolution 24/15). The report reviews progress made on implementation of the 2016-2017 work programme and budget in 2016 and focuses on the results that are attributed to interventions of UN-Habitat’s and those of its partners. Each section starts with highlights of main results noted in 2016, followed by reports on results realized at country, regional and global levels. Results are measured against the defined expected accomplishments (EAs), and progress rated on reported attainment of indicator targets for 2017, together with qualitative analysis of noted changes. It also highlights challenges met and their management, as well as lessons learned.
Urban Development Initiative (UrDI) For the Canaan Area of Port-Au-Prince, Neighbourhood Plan: Canaan III, 2016 2016 Canaan III, located in the southern part of Canaan, is the densest neighbourhood with a population of 22,413 inhabitants. The densest region is the centre where the concentration of houses and services is abundant. The topography of Canaan III is moderate and opens the possibility for development. This neighbourhood does not face environmental risks and thus has the potential to be a rich neighbourhood.
Unpacking Metropolitan Governance for Sustainable Development: Analysis of Case Studies: Summary Reports of Case Studies 2016 This case study analysis forms part of the publication series “Unpacking metropolitan governance” that documents experiences and gives hands-on approaches for stakeholders in the field of sustainable development of metropolitan regions.
The analysis and the summary reports of the case studies of Metropolitan Bandung (Indonesia), Guadalajara Metropolitan Area (Mexico) and e-Thekwini (Durban, South Africa) are following the joint publication of the discussion paper “Unpacking Metropolitan Governance for Sustainable Development”, UN-Habitat, GIZ and FMDV encourage a critical and intensive discussion among policy makers and practitioners about the findings and recommendations offered by the discussion paper, case study reports, and analyses.
The publication series shall serve as a reference point for the ongoing international discussion on transforming urbanization, implementing the Sustainable Development Goals at the local and metropolitan level and thereby contribute to the Habitat III debate.

Slum Almanac 2015-2016 2016 In our world, one in eight people live in slums. In total, around a billion people live in slum conditions today. This not only amounts to a rather unacceptable contemporary reality but to one whose numbers are continuously swelling. In spite of great progress in improving slums and preventing their formation– represented by a decrease from 39 per cent to 30 per cent of urban population living in slums in developing countries between 2000 and 2014 – absolute numbers continue to grow and the slum challenge remains a critical factor for the persistence of poverty in the world, excluding fellow humans and citizens from the benefits of urbanisation and from fair and equal opportunities to attain individual and collective progress and prosperity.

Framework for evaluating Continuum of Land Rights scenarios 2016 A significant portion of land interests around the world are not recorded, leaving a large number of people vulnerable to land grabbing by the state and other powerful interests. The continuum of land rights is gaining traction globally as a metaphor to guide policies and strategies to improve equity in land tenure and land transactions, and to increase official recognition of different tenure types that provide various levels of security. The continuum offers an alternative approach to the dominant focus on titling of individually held private property as the ultimate form of tenure security, or the end goal of land tenure reforms. It promotes recognition and increase of security across the continuum, with opportunity for movement or transformation between different tenure forms.
Towards an Arab Urban Agenda 2016 Building on the core pillars of the Arab Strategy for Housing and Sustainable Urban Development 2030, the Arab Urban Agenda report has been produced, with an action oriented framework and an aim to consolidate the vision of the Arab region for urban development, and provide its perspective of the implementation of the New Urban Agenda in the region as well as the achievement of the SDGs, in particular the SDG 11 and other urban related goals.

Habitat III regional report: Housing and urban development in the economic commission for Europe region 2016 The Regional Reports were prepared by the respective United Nations Regional Commissions and the Regional Offices of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), in collaboration with the Habitat III Secretariat. A significant number of experts from different countries of the region representing various constituencies, including academia, civil society, United Nations agencies and programmes and governmental institutions, contributed to the preparation of the report.
