National Urban Policy: Europe and North America Report 2017 The purpose of this report is to assess the development, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation of national urban policy in Europe and North America. Surveying the experience of countries throughout this region, and highlighting both minor and major case studies, the report emphasizes the diversity of national urban policy characteristics on a regional level, but also identifies certain key regional characteristics.
Space to Learn: Improving the Learning Environment in Mannar District 2017 This publication highlights the key achievements of the project “Sustainable Resettlement through Community-Driven Improvement of the Learning Environment in Mannar District, Sri Lanka” implemented through a participatory people’s process from 2015 -2017. Through this project, UN-Habitat supported the construction and improvement of learning facilities in 25 schools in Mannar district with funding from the Government of Japan. It supported the construction of primary and secondary classroom buildings, water, sanitation and hygiene facilities and teachers’ quarters benefitting 10,000 returnees including 6,800 school children.
Global Public Space Programme Annual report 2017 2017 UN-Habitat’s Global Public Space Programme, launched in 2012, is now active in more than 30 cities across the world. We produce policy guides, share knowledge and carry out advocacy work to promote public space as a key element to ensure good quality of life for all urban residents.
Assessing Climate Risk in Myanmar (Technical Report) 2017 This report presents climate risk information including observed climate and future projections of temperature, rainfall, sea level rise and various extreme events, and outlines how this information can be used in decision-making. It also describes how climate change will affect biodiversity and ecosystem services, coastal zones, health, agriculture, infrastructure, water resources and urban areas.
City Resilience Profiling Programme – Habitat III Special Edition 2017 From 14-18 March 2016 UN-Habitat’s City Resilience Profiling Programme, the City Council of Barcelona and BCN Urban Resilience Partnership hosted the Barcelona Resilience Week, a global platform for discussion and learning between leading cities and companies working to build more resilient communities all over the world.
The State of Addis Ababa 2017: The Addis Ababa we want 2017 The State of Addis Ababa 2017 report is aimed at providing a comprehensive assessment of existing socioeconomic and environmental conditions in the city, shedding light on the impacts of on-going fast paced urbanization. The report addresses policy makers and city planners and makes bold recommendations on how resources can be strategically developed and managed to sustainably meet the needs of the urban population of today and the future, improve the short- and long-term wellbeing of citizens and transform Addis Ababa into the city that the citizenry wants.
National Urban Policy Framework 2017 Based on the Rapid Urban Diagnostic Report Myanmar (February 2016), the National Urban Policy Framework outlines five priority areas for further work on the National Urban Policy. The purpose of the framework document is to serve as discussion paper on the ministerial level. Simultaneously, the framework document can be used as a starting point for policy dialogues with a wide range of stakeholders in civil society. A key function of a NUP is to serve as an instrument for future decision-making, translating broad principles into more concrete directives and guidelines.
Adaptation Planning in the City of Honiara, Solomon Islands 2017 For half a decade UN-Habitat, through its Cities and Climate Change Initiative and Participatory Slum Upgrading Programme, has assisted the urban areas, both formal and informal, of the City of Honiara in the Solomon Islands with adaptation planning. Assistance began in 2012 with a participatory analysis of vulnerability and adaptive capacity.
