Edmonton conference bridges gap between climate change science and practice

Edmonton, 8 March 2018 – A conference convened by the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and co-organised by UN-Habitat has, for the first time, put the science behind climate change in cities at the centre of the debate around action.

Cities IPCC, hosted by the Canadian city of Edmonton, culminated with the establishment of a global blueprint to better understand climate change, its impacts on cities, and the critical role localities play in solving this challenge.

UN-Habitat Executive Director visits Kenya’s informal settlement; Meets community stakeholders

UN-Habitat and LIXIL Corporation Delivering Sustainable Solutions for Refugees and Host Communities

Nairobi, 28 Feb 2018 - With support from the Government of Japan, UN-Habitat has partnered with UNHCR and the Turkana County Government in Kenya to implement an integrated spatial development framework which promotes climate resilient infrastructure for sustainable livelihoods. Pilot projects for sustainable shelter, public space and sanitation that align humanitarian responses with development priorities are being undertaken with technical support from UN-Habitat in the context of integrating refugee and host communities.
