New Urban Agenda (Portuguese BR)

The New Urban Agenda was adopted at the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III) in Quito, Ecuador, on 20 October 2016. It was endorsed by the United Nations General Assembly at its sixty-eighth plenary meeting of the seventy-first session on 23 December 2016.


The version in Brazilian Portuguese was developed mainly for the workshops being undertaken in LAC countries including Brazil about the “New Urban Agenda” and “Smart Cities”, initiative by The European Union ‘International Urban Cooperation’ Program (IUC) in Latin America, with the support of UN-Habitat.

The National Urban Policy (NUP) is a tool that allows national governments to guide the urbanization process as well as a guiding tool that provides a clear and coordinated view of the directions to be taken by public policies on the territorial development of cities, enabling greater and better vertical and horizontal coordination. For the Republic of Argentina, the NUP presents an opportunity to lay the foundation for an urban development plan coordinated at the national level, including contributions from the provincial and municipal levels and from various entities from the public and private sectors
