UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour award winners announced

Mombasa, Kenya 18 September 2018--UN-Habitat Executive Director, Maimunah Mohd Sharif, joined hundreds of Mombasa residents to take part in a clean up campaign to mark World Cleanup Day. The worldwide event saw millions of people in over 150 countries joined hands as part of the Let’s Do It movement to clean up the world.
The world celebrates International Youth Day this month with calls for the creation of safe spaces for youth. Young people in Kenya comprise the largest part of the entire population, with three quarters being under the age of 30. The provision of space is critical for their positive development.

I join the Secretary-General of the United Nations Mr. António Guterres in expressing my profound sorrow at the news of the death of the former United Nations Secretary-General and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Kofi Annan. He was an extraordinary global leader whose work transformed the lives of countless people. His humanity and compassion will live on as an inspiration to all in the United Nations and far beyond. Nairobi, 10 August 2018 - A festive mood engulfed the usually staid United Nations complex in Nairobi when hundreds of young people, partners, top Kenyan government officials as well as UN employees gathered to celebrate this year’s International Youth Day.
Fukuoka 9 August 2018, Fukuoka – Thirty-two city leaders from 16 countries recently gathered for the 12th Asian-Pacific City Summit to discuss “sustainable cities and communities” addressing SDG11. The summit was co-organized by Fukuoka City and UN-Habitat Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP) on 1 - 3 August 2018.
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres today announced the appointment of Victor Kisob of Cameroon as Assistant Secretary-General and Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat). He succeeds Aisa Kirabo Kacyira of Rwanda, to whom the Secretary-General is grateful for her dedicated service to the Organization. Ms. Kacyira will continue to serve as Deputy Executive Director until Mr. Kisob assumes his position.
